The gas flow pattern through small size Resistive Plate Chambers with 2 mm gap

Abstract A prototype of a single-gap glass Resistive Plate Chamber (RPC) is constructed by the authors. To find requirements for better operation detector's gas system, we have simulated flow Argon through detector using computational fluid dynamic methods. Simulations show that pressure inside chamber linearly depends on rate and chamber's output hose length. The simulation results were compatible with experiments. We found pressure-driven speed molecules two orders magnitude larger in inlet outlet regions than blocked corners 14 × cm 2 chamber, most likely difference higher detectors different geometries.
